Army Public School is Managed by the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). There are more than 140+ schools in India. They were formerly know as Army high schools but in 2011, they changed to Army Public School.

These schools were specially designed primarily to cater to the educational needs of children from military families. In this article we will share the basic procedure and important info for joining the Army Public School.

  • Admission Priority: Children of military personnel get first preference.
  • Includes: This category covers children from the Defence Security Corps (DSC), widows of military personnel, and territorial army personnel with 10 years of service.
  • Next Priority: Children of ex-servicemen are admitted next in line.
  • Followed By: After that, children from Air Force and Navy backgrounds are considered for admission.

Age Limit for Army Public School students:

Class 1: 5 years

Class 2: 6 years

Class 3: 7 years

Class 4: 8 years

Class 5: 9 years

Class 6: 10 years

Class 7: 11 years

Class 8: 12 years

APS Admission Process

  • Interviews: Conducted solely for Class 1 admissions. Students with prior enrollment in an Army Public School for 10 months are exempted from interviews.
  • Entrance Tests: Mandatory for every class.
    • Classes 2nd to 5th: Entrance test covers Maths, Hindi, and English.
    • Classes 6th to 8th: Exam includes questions from Maths, Hindi, English, and General Knowledge.
    • Classes 9th and 10th: Exam encompasses Maths, Hindi, English, Science, and General Knowledge.

Summary: Interviews are exclusive to Class 1 admissions, with exemptions for those with 10 months’ prior enrollment. Entrance tests are required for all classes, varying in subjects based on grade levels.
