National Defense Academy is located at Khadakwasla, Pune Maharashtra. NDA is a place where cadets are trained for all three services i.e. – Army, Air Force, and Navy before going for pre-Commissioning in their respective services. it is the first tri-service academy 

If you are interested in joining the National Defense Academy(NDA) then you have to the Written exam conducted by UPSC twice a year followed by 5 days SSB Interview and Medical test then wait for the Final merit list.

The alumni of the National Defense Academy(NDA) include 3 Param Vir Chakra recipients and 12 Ashoka Chakra recipients. NDA has also produced 27 service Chiefs of Staff to date.

What is the symbol of NDA?

The symbol of the National Defence Academy consists of a sword, a quill pen, an anchor, and an eagle. It is symbolized to represent all four battlefields’ education provided by the Institute. The background of the symbol is maroon, which represents sacrifices and courage.

Academy Life at NDA

The academic year at NDA is divided into two terms i.e. spring (January to May) and autumn (July to December). A cadet must undergo training for a total of six terms i.e. three years before graduating from the NDA.

On successful completion of the three-year course, Cadets are sent to their respective training academies for one year of training before granting of commission. Army cadets proceed to the Indian Military Academy (Dehradun), naval cadets to the Indian Naval Academy (Ezhimala) and Air Force cadets to the Air Force Academy (Dundigal, Hyderabad).

NDA Academics include the common subjects of the three services. It covers weapon handling, map reading, military law, history and organization of each service. Analysis of military campaigns and operations are also taught in the curriculum. After 3 years of training, all the cadets are given graduation in BA/BSc or BCs (Computer Science) degree of Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Similar to other colleges, exams are also held at NDA at regular intervals. To improve candidates endurance, various exercises and long runbacks with full battle load are held, in which you navigate and compete with other squadrons.

Apart from academic training, they are also trained in outdoor skills, like Drill, Physical Training, Sports and games. There is also a games period where they play games like football, hockey, and basketball.

How to apply for NDA ?

Candidates are required to apply online by using the website upsconline.nic.in. It is essential for the applicant to register himself/herself
first at One Time Registration (OTR) platform, available on the Commission’s website, and then proceeds for filling up the online application for the examination. OTR has to be registered only once in life time. This can be done anytime throughout the year. If the candidate is already registered, he/she can proceed straightway for filling up the online application for the
examination
